The flags are flying at half-mast outside the UBW offices as we mourn the loss of Stan Lee who passed away today at the age of 95. Words cannot express how much of an impact his work had on both Joseph and Mike.
We'll have something more to say about Stan The Man in a couple of days.

Rock the Vote!

Whether you leaned to the left or tilted to the right during today's elections here in the U.S., I think we can all agree that one of the most important votes took place 32 years ago.
...and for the record, Mike and Joseph both voted 'Yes'.

On episode 39, Joseph surprises Mike by declaring that The Osmonds were influential on his becoming a hard rock fan. Here are two examples why.

If you were a kid in the 70s and owned a bike, or a Big Wheel, or, well, ANYTHING with wheels, you probably tried to be Evel Knievel at least once. And you probably injured yourself in the process.
But thanks to the Ben Cooper Company, at Halloween all you had to do was throw this sucker on and - WHAM! - you were America's Greatest Daredevil!

Trick or Treat?

In the time honored tradition of "trick or treat", we suffered a horrible TRICK this week and Mike and Joseph were unable to get a show together that met their high standards of excellence.
There WILL be a new show on October 25th and it WILL satisfyingly scary. In the meantime, go poke around whenitwascool.com and listen to some other shows. There's all sorts of Halloween goodness going on over there!

It's October and that means it's time for tricks, treats and scary things.

Top 31 Horror Movies

Earlier this year (in the Summer), Mike compiled a bunch of data and arrived at the Top 31 Horror Movies of All Time (according to the Internet).
Check it out below:

Awhile back (early Summer) I did a little data collection project. I visited roughly 20 different websites (running the gamut from super-heavily visited to little traffic at all) that ranked at least 31 horror movies in a "Best/Greatest Horror Movies of All Time" list.

 I took all the data and average out the numbers each movie placed on the different lists. I noticed that once movies got past around 50 there was a pretty wide variance of titles and the positions they were slotted (one list might have a movie at 56, another at 94, and so on). Since I was limiting my list to 31 (for the number of days in October), anything that didn't score low enough to meet that goal was simply given a 32. As an example, a movie's scores might have looked like this; 4,8,12,5,3,16,26,6,32,13,12,5 which would have resulted in an average ranking of 11.83.

With that all said, here is what I arrived at as The Internet's Top 31 Horror Movies of All Time:

In the current episode, Joseph mentioned his secret crush - Marta Kristen - played a mermaid named Lorelai in the summer-themed movie, "Beach Blanket Bingo".
As a favor to Joe (and all of you listeners!), the Uphill Both Ways helper monkeys were able to find a couple of decent pictures showcasing 'Judy Robinson's' turn as a mermaid!

On the latest episode the guys talked briefly about a mobile game that Mike got Joseph hooked on - the 
80s Mania Wrestling Returns game! 
It's a collectible (virtual) card game in which you accumulate cards of wrestlers, managers, specialty matches, arenas, and so on, and then book your own shows (one a week with four weeks in a month). The wrestlers are parodies of real wrestlers of the era as well as pop-culture-inspired characters (who may remind you of specific people!)

An Important Show Update

The past couple of episodes the fellas have mentioned that they were going to roll in a few minor changes to the show with the start of year two and today marks the first of those changes. Gone are all topics involving or related to the 1970s and 1980s. Instead, all subject matter will be pulled from the 1990s.
"[The 90s are] still last century, so it's retro," said Mike. "let's face it - the 70s and 80s weren't really as cool as we make them out to be. By going to the 90s Joe and I can talk cell phones, the early days of the Internet and cartoons like Angry Beavers and CatDog."
"Honestly, the 90s wasn't our first choice," added Joseph. "I wanted to do the 50s, but Mike pointed out that we weren't even alive yet so we wouldn't have any memories to talk about."
